Richard is a native of London, England, having relocated to the US in 1987. As a young player, he was a member of the England Independent Schools Squad at both the U16 and U19 age levels. In 1987, he received a scholarship to play soccer at the University of Alabama - Birmingham. Richard was a four-year starter, a two-year captain and two-year Sun Belt Conference selection during his career at UAB.
After graduation from UAB, Richard was hired in 1992 as the first full time Director of Coaching for the Williamsburg Soccer Club in Virginia. During his 14 years with the club, he developed a fully integrated youth soccer system servicing both boys and girls. He holds the Premier, Advanced and National Diplomas from NSCAA. He is also a National Staff Coach for the the NSCAA, qualified to teach NSCAA courses.
In addition to coaching, Richard has also served on the Executive Board of the Premier Developent League, was the Vice President of the Virginia Club Champions League for 10 years and was a mentor for the the NSCAA’s newly established Master of Coaching Diploma. In the past, Richard has been a featured clinician at the NSCAA National Convention, has lectured at the Virginia Youth Soccer Association Workshop, has been a scout for US Club Soccer’s ID2 program, and has written a Direcor of Coaching course for the NSCAA. Richard is also the founder and owner of Sublime Soccer, Inc., a soccer consulting company based here in Charlotte.
