South Charlotte Soccer Association
Under 9 & 10 programs
SCSA is pleased to announce that we have adopted the U10 Academy program for our youngest players. Please click here for the Academy program information packet.
At 11 & 12 players are still primarily focusing on techniques and skills but we begin to introduce games that develop tactical awareness as to how, when and where certain skills should be applied. Sessions are based around ball familiarity. We aim to raise confidence and ability on and off the ball by using educational games and practices and teaching the techniques and tactics in a way that motivates the players to want to practice and to want to improve. The sessions also cover many aspects of team play using functional and phase of play practices and/or small sided games.
All sessions are structured in a way that incorporates a progressive series of practices where increased levels of pressure, added restrictions and game-like competition are introduced as players become comfortable with the skill being taught.
Each team will have two sessions per week. Session 1 will be the technical session as outlined above and session 2 will be aimed at preparation for the upcoming game at the weekend.
The nature of our U11 and U12 program offered by SCSA covers all 4 pillars of the game: physical, technical, tactical & psychological. Every player participating in the programs provided by South Charlotte Soccer Association is certain to develop and become the best they can be.
Some teams will play in the local Charlotte Challenge League, with 3 levels (gold, silver and bronze). Those players and teams advancing at a more rapid rate are introduced to the Classic program where competition is more advanced and regular season games are scheduled against opponents throught the western part of the state. Teams will play in either Classic A (Division1) or Classic B (Division 2).
Each team will have a full time, qualified coach who will lead two training session per week in conjunction with the appropriate Director of Coaching (DOC). The coach will demonstrate a high level of team leadership, motivation, communication and coaching ability all while providing a safe and challenging environment. The director of coaching will act as a support system in every way to the coach and team members. The DOC will be actively involved in training sessions and game day operations of the team. The direction of the team will ultimately be dictated by the DOC.
Each team will attend at least 6 tournaments per year. The SCSA pre season event and State festival (or Challenge State Cup for Challenge teams) are mandatory events for each team. The tournament schedule for the teams will be announced in advance of tryouts. There will be at least 2 ‘travel’ events where the team will travel on a regional basis to compete in a club supported tournament.
Under 13 & 14 Programs (Junior Classic)
The emphasis of the program is to continue the technical development our players received in the U9 through U12 phases. This is the stage where we will teach “the game’. Each team will be given the tactical elements needed to enhance team play. Each player must know the various roles and responsibilities of different positions on the field. The teams will be taught tactics in phases of defending, midfield play and in the attack. Teams will be exposed to various ‘systems of play’. The team will play in either the classic A or B division with is normally restricted to the western side of the state.
At the Classic Junior level players will be challenged to push themselves hard and aspire to play at the next level. Performances still come first however; results are a factor as there is promotion/relegation in league play. We feel that winning is a result of coaches consistently giving the players the correct information over the course of a season.
