89 Blue Kepner Cup Finalist

The South Charlotte U17 Boys First Division team had a memorable and very successful spring 2007 season... Coached by Todd Herman, the great year started with the championship of the Lake Norman Fall Classic tournament in Nov. 2006. Wins in that tournament included two PK wins over Charlotte Soccer Club White and a team from Prince William County VA in the finals. Then picking up in Feb., over the course of our 9 league matches, they compiled a record of 6-0-3, winning the division and a promotion to the Premier division this coming season. They also maintained the lowest goals against average in the league giving up just 4 goals in the 9 league matches.

Then Kepner/President’s Cup play began with the team as the number 2 seed. With a string of 4 wins the team advanced to the state championship game and suffered a hard fought loss to CASL Black 2-1, the #1 seed. So with the Kepner runners up title in hand, over the course of their play, they team amassed a combined record of 13-1-3.

Congratulations to the team and Coach Herman on a great season. The team included:

91 Black Boys Rule at Savannah Cup!

The 91 SCSA Black ruled the weekend at the CGSA Savannah Cup Boys Rule! 2007 tournament January 27 & 28. All matches were very hard fought and the boys played with great determination.

Match 1 against the Augusta Arsenal Green was decided by the lone goal from Alex assisted by and the great defense offered by all players. Match 2 was played against a very highly publicized DDY Fugees, a team of refugees from various countries based in Decatur, . They had speed and determination, but again, Black prevailed with 2 goals, one from Brad assisted by Alex and the second for the day from Alex off a cross from Jordon. Again the defense showed their stuff and allowed the Fugees only one goal.

Match 3 against the SC8030 United from Kingston, was again a very competitive match, but Black capitalized as David assisted Brad in his second goal for the weekend. United was shut-out as the team’s determined defense refused to allow them to score. This win placed Black in the Championship match against the DDY Fugees, who also won their semi-final match.

The Fugees drew first blood, but that would prove to be the only goal allowed by the Black team’s defense. Surprisingly, it was Kyle, the team’s sweeper, who put the team on the board when he played clean-up with the ball while everyone else was in front of the Fugees goal. He lobbed the ball up over the heads of 20 players and just out of the reach of the Fugees’ keeper, off his fingers and into the net. After that, Black took charge of the match. Goals by Carson, Brad and the newest teammate David assisted by Brad iced the cake.
It was an excellent weekend for soccer, great weather for January and a great team builder with many opportunities for team "bonding". And hardware to boot...

Congratulations 89 Boys Gold Team...

The SCSA 89 Boys Gold team has yet to start their regular season but are already enjoying huge success...

The team, currently ranked 20th nationally, was accepted into the Disney Showcase Tournament in Orlando the week after Christmas.  Just being accepted to play in this tournament is a huge achievement as it is ranked the #1 premier-elite tournament in the country.  But their success did not stop there.  The boys defeated teams from Auburndale New York, Seattle Washington and Austin Texas before losing to eventual winner from Dallas.  The trip proved a wonderful experience for the team and allowed them to play other top nationally ranked teams in front of literally hundreds of college coaches.  "The boys played brilliantly," said coach Rosario.  "This is an important event for them because it allowed them to prove to college coaches that they can play at the next level.  They worked hard all fall preparing for this tournament and the work paid off handsomely."  Their next tournament is in February when they head to Jacksonville, Florida to play in the Score at the Shore Tournament - another top premier-elite tournament.
